There was not an empty seat at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre
as hundreds flocked the venue on Saturday for the Indian Comedy
Festival and Chutney Drama.
The event which was the first of its kind, began about 8.30
pm and was organised by Randy Glasgow Productions.
One of the strongest performances of the evening came from
members of the Clico Shiv Shakti dance group who put on a
comical dance for the crowd.
Patrons screamed with laughter as the colourfully dressed
dancers lip-synched the songs and mimicked movements of some
of the more popular East Indian artistes.
Another highly anticipated act was a clash between comedians
Kenneth Seepersad and Massive Gosine.
Although appearing at different times during the event, the
crowd eagerly followed the battle as the comedians made fun
of each others looks, manner of dress and sexual preferences.
Earlier, Professor Lalsingh opened the first half of the show,
followed by Habeeb Khan of Guyana.
Other strong first half performances came from comedians Louis
Antoine and John Agitation.
Sprangalang brought the curtain down on the first segment
with a humourous dialogue outlining the ills of society and
a campaign for the legalisation of obeah.
Rex East started the second half around 10.50 pm with song
and dance. However, his intentionally off key
song and out-of-time dance moves generated no more than a
few murmurs from the crowd.
He was followed by Wanderer, Massive Gosine and the Clico
Shiv Shakti group.
Also included in the line up was the duo Soca Elvis and Cyclops
who, with the help of Saucy Beta brought life
to the crowd.
Patrons applauded and cheered on Cyclops as he gyrated to
the duos Carnival 2004 hit Speed (When we Wining).
After the show which ended around midnight, satisfied patrons
were overheard saying they were eagerly anticipating its next
instalment.
