Accountability sorely needed

Former mayor of New York Rudolph Guiliani once recommended that every police station should be held accountable for the crime in their area. He said that a sergeant should be given a period of time to solve a crime and if this is not done, he should be demoted and another officer given the job.

The screening process for getting into our police force is not efficient. Background checks should be done on all candidates seeking recruitment by the police service. Some of them may have been involved in breaking the law, causing police officers to take bribe. Generally, in this society, we need accountability, not just in the police service but especially in the government services.
