Noel Lochan will undergo a third round of surgery at the San
Fernando General Hospital today, as doctors try to rid his
body of mushrooming boils which had crippled him for more
than a year.
Lochan, of Matilda Avenue, Princes Town, was rescued a month
ago by community policemen who found him covered in flies
on the floor of his mothers home.
After reading of Lochans plight in the Guardian, Health
Minister John Rahael made arrangements for his care at the
SFGH.
A plastic surgeon has also offered to do reconstructive surgery
on Lochans face.
Lochan was in high spirits yesterday when the Guardian visited
him. He said he was confident that he would be cured.
He said he was also happy his siblings were getting the chance
to go to school for the first time.
Four of them Jenelle, seven, Michelle, eight, Ricky,
12, and Michael, 11 have been enrolled at Christ College
and Princes Town Presbyterian Primary School, while Vishal,
four and Petal, three, will soon be enrolled in a pre-school.
Snacking on a pack of peanuts and sipping orange juice, Lochan
joked that he was trying to fatten up so he would
survive another round of surgery.
I
usually conk out for about an hour during surgery and when
I get up I feel a little pain, but I am glad that they are
trying to get rid of the boils, Noel said.
Lochan still has boils on his lower chin and his face looks
twisted since surgery was performed on it.
His crossed right eye is now also visible for the first time.
Lochans mother Cheryl yesterday said he was born with
a crossed right eye.
I
dont recognise my child now, he looks so different,
his hair is cut and his face no longer has the boils,
she said.
