Shame of Chaguaramas

Empty bottles and other debris litter the shoreline at Small Boats Bay, Chaguaramas, after the rainfall last Thursday. An official at the Institute of Marine Affairs said this was a small example of the garbage that came down from the rivers after a few days of heavy rains.

IMA director Hazel McShine said surface currents brought debris ashore from the Diego Martin and Caroni rivers to Chacachacare, Chagville, Small Boats and Chaguaramas bays.

It’s the result of garbage dumped in the rivers and drains, she said.
