Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards paid a surprise visit to her brother Winston Ramjohn at San Fernando General Hospital yesterday, a day after he was shot on both legs during a botched robbery.

A spokesman at President’s House said Ramjohn-Richards, wife of President George Maxwell Richards, visited her brother yesterday morning.

The President did not accompany her, the spokesman said.

Ramjohn, 59, of 20 Windy Drive, Gulf View, La Romain, was at Ramjohn’s Grocery, Todd’s Street, San Fernando, when two men armed with guns stormed in shortly after 4.30 pm on Tuesday.

They ordered Ramjohn to hand over his money. He refused and put up a struggle.

One of the men shot him on the legs before they escaped without taking anything. Ramjohn remained in stable condition yesterday.

Doctors told police the bullets exited his legs. Ramjohn’s wife, Marilyn, said he was heavily sedated but stable.

Although he spoke to relatives, he did not talk about the robbery, she said.

“Crime is getting worse and innocent people are suffering,” she added.

San Fernando CID detectives are continuing investigations.
