Vijay cleared of murder

Wife, businessman remain in custody

After a three-month wait, Anamika Naraynsingh hugs her father Prof Vijay Naraynsingh who has been cleared of the charge of murdering her mother and his second wife Chandra. As he handed down his decision in San Fernando Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington said the State had failed to prove it had evidence to support its charge.

While the prominent surgeon walked out of the court free, his current wife Seeromani Maharaj-Naraynsingh remained handcuffed. Maharaj-Naraynsingh and businessman Elton Ramasir remain in custody until Wellington hears the testimony of a new witness, called on Maharaj-Naraynsingh’s behalf, next Tuesday.
