After 25 years of doing business in Trinidad, American Airlines opened it first office in San Fernando yesterday.

At the official launch of the ticket sales kiosk at the Gulf City Mall, District Sales Manager, Annaleen Bobb, said the airline’s south branch had been three years in the making, since most of its sales come from the south and central districts.

Bobb said American Airlines also plans to assist the needy in anyway they can in San Fernando.

“This is our first presence in south. A lot of our sales come from here... but we are also willing to help communities with their events,” she said.

Nisha Maharaj, country manager of American Airlines said the company wanted to make travelling more convenient for its customers.

“We know how much Trinidadians appreciate excellent deals, like the ones at Gulf City. We want our customers to have access to our service and the Gulf City Mall is an excellent place to be,” she said.

In welcoming American Airlines to the southland, San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherly congratulated the company for taking such a bold step, saying that the move is in keeping with government’s thinking of decentralization.

“You have sent a signal to the other airlines, who are not yet in San Fernando.

“We in south enjoy travel more than others from the region. With this, you are now going to allow us to spend less time in traffic, because of the services you offer here.

“Being here makes life a little easier,” the mayor ended.
