must be taught to hate. Dr Job insists that all citizens of
T&T are bound to the same country by fraternal duties.
We must dwell in unity to perform dharma or duty. Let respect
for beauty every human guide our thoughts to felicity.
Let every maataa (mother) sing lullabies of love for all mankind
to the innocent babes at their breast. Let them say, See
God in every face, not race, like a mantra, every time
a radio host, politician or calypsonian demands that we line
up like Hutus and Tutsis behind their banner of hatred. Let
it be said daily, preached in church, mosque and mandir that
love is the law and the prophets; that our noblest duty is
to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Let us teach children to emancipate themselves from the tawdry
European idea of race, to humanise our lives with the gifts
of all mankind, from all times and peoples. Let us swear to
do this daily and abandon blind prejudice or ignorance parading
as race pride. Let us do these things to save T&T from
the fate of a skin sick, race rivened failed state.

children from mental slavery, ignorance and poverty, not devotion
to the obnoxious European idea of African or Indian race.
