For the second time in Test cricket history West Indies had two batsmen score double centuries in the same innings, Wavell Hinds 213 and the skipper Shivnarine Chanderpaul, getting 203 not out.

Previously, in 1958 Gary Sobers 365 not out and Conrad Hunte 260 led the team to 790 for three wickets against Pakistan at Sabina Park, Jamaica.

In 1959 at Kensington Oval, Sobers again scored 226 and Frank Worrell was 197 not out when the skipper, Gerry Alexander declared at 563 for eight wickets in reply to England’s first innings score of 482. Why was there a declaration then, when only 42 overs were bowled at England in their second innings?

The only other occasion on which two doubles were scored in the same innings in a Test featuring the Windies, was when Bill Lawry (210) and Bobby Simpson (201) had an opening stand of 382 in an innings of 650 for six declared.

In reply, the Windies made 573 in a drawn match.
