India eased to an eight-wicket win yesterday and in so doing ended West Indies’ hopes of reaching the semifinals of the 2005 Women’s World Cup in South Africa.

At one stage, the West Indies women were 20 for two, before Nadine George (33) and Pamela Lavine (43) lifted them to 61 for three with a third-wicket partnership of 41.

But Jhulan Goswami (four for 16) and Neetu David (three for 11) handed India firm control of the match as the team bowled out the West Indies out for 135.

India got off to a flying start with openers Anju Jain (68 not out) and Jaya Sharma (47) posting an opening partnership of 107 runs.

Verena Felicien grabbed two for 31 but India reached the victory target of 136 for the loss of only two wickets.

The West Indies’ final match will be against England tomorrow.
