Going extra mile for success

“You need to ensure that in every critical aspect of your life you go the extra mile.”

—Philip G Rochford

Know yourself

What principles do you follow to deliver what you want in life? The first consideration is to know what you want. This is not as easy as it sounds. Most people merely exist. Are you one of them? Do you simply get up each morning and follow the same routine and then feel that you are getting nowhere?

If you want success, take every critical aspect of your life and go the extra mile in each area. Going the extra mile involves your contributing more than what you are expected to deliver, and your giving more value than you receive for your efforts.

Your life is generated from thinking. The power to think ranks very high in importance in your life’s journey. Thinking is the first link in the process of making things happen in life. Thinking creates action. Action creates habits. Habits determine your future.

You have an impulse or desire and this builds into a view or opinion that results in your action or inaction. The outcome of your action, repeated often enough, becomes a habit. It may be a good or bad habit. Habits that keep being repeated over and over manifest a way of life, manifest the expression of your future life.

You go the extra mile in your thinking when you go beyond your normal limits of thinking to new possibilities of thought. Some elements to help you go the extra mile in your thinking are:

n Grow into your dreams. Pursue them relentlessly and let no obstacles frustrate you.

n Have a sense of delight for your dreams and do not feel pressured.

n Be flexible and not wedded to the outcome of your expectations.

n Let your emotional intelligence be in balance. Handle your emotions and those of the people around you intelligently.

n Honour your uniqueness and understand that no one else may think exactly as you do.

n Open your mind and heart to the wisdom of the ages. There is so much more to learn.

Relationships

Thinking is internal to you. When your thinking is expressed, your persona comes into contact with another person. This is where the conflict starts.

People are so different that at almost every point there is a difference in their views and their interpretations of words and situations. Hence, whenever there is conflict in the world, there are human beings in opposition to each other. There is misunderstanding. There is the insistence of one person that another must conform to his or her way of thinking and understanding situations.

So how can you go that extra mile in relationships?

Your first point must be to accept that you do not know everything. You can be wrong in your opinion and views. You are fallible. Accepting this will open for you that the other person may be right or have a point to be considered.

The second point in going the extra mile in relationships is that you must permit others to be themselves and not box them into a mould that you feel they should be. This is a hard option but a necessary one. Others must be permitted to exercise their own choices and personal preferences. You must accept them without judging them.

Of course, it is your choice not to associate with them, or limit your interaction with them.

Uniqueness of spirit

You cannot normally see your spirit. Also, you cannot touch your spirit. You are not even sure how your spirit operates. You take it on faith that your life force emanates from your spirit. You are not sure whether you are a spiritual being having a physical experience or a physical being having a spiritual experience.

One thing is certain. When your body ceases to function, usually referred to as death, your spirit separates from your body or vice versa.

Observe nature and you will see diversity is its hallmark. This suggests that your spirit differs from the spirit of other people. There is thus spiritual uniqueness in each person just as there is physical uniqueness.

This probably accounts for the multiplicity of religions and divisiveness even within individual religions. This confusion of religious administration provides the basis for many people simply ignoring their spiritual life.

How can you walk the extra mile in your spirituality?

The obvious approach is to go deeper into whatever religious doctrine you subscribe. You certainly are not following your spiritual or religious tenets 100 per cent. Select the ones that you are violating the most and greatly sharpen your observance of them.

Your divine capacity

There is a divine capacity within you to attract all that you want to be. To become aware of and be controlled by your highest self requires a sensitive awareness of body and spirit. You need to gain access to a higher level to grow through the spiritual stages of adult development. It does not matter whether you believe in religion or not, you have the divine spark of the Creator within you.

There are different administrations of the spirit but this divine spirit is available to all through the majesty of the Creator. Thus, there are spiritual laws that apply no matter your belief system. Just as the sun shines on the just and unjust, no matter how they feel about the sun, spiritual laws similarly apply without being a respecter of people.

Spiritual pathways

There are some pathways that are universal and will help you to the extra mile in your spiritual quest. These are as follows:

Become sensitively aware that you are more than your body.

Express gratitude for your many blessings.

Sow bountifully and you will reap bountifully.

Practise love and forgiveness.

Be open to your spiritual guidance.

Do and expect the best but accept the undeniable outcome.

You have the power to go the extra mile for success. Use that power to unleash your greatness.
