Edwards
wants to stay up
Wrexham
trio Carlos Edwards, Dennis Lawrence and Hector Sam toasted
their teams success all of Sunday evening and the celebrations
are expected to continue into this week after their club defeated
Southend 2-0 to claim the LDV Vans Trophy at the famous Millenium
Stadium.
Edwards and Lawrence took the field in the final with the
latter setting up one of the goals.
Despite the win, Edwards says his main aim is to help Wrexham
survive their relegation threat in the English League One
with the club currently 22nd on the 24-team table.
The T&T midfielder said We have won the Cup and
that was a great feeling for Dennis, Hector and myself
But
to be honest, the win will not feel that good at the end of
the season if we dont stay up, Ive established
myself in English football at this club, This is home to all
of us and we all want to see the club survive.
There
has been a lot of speculation about whether I will remain
here or move to a higher club but at the moment for me and
the other guys, its all about seeing the club survive
and seeing T&T get to the next World Cup, Edwards
said.
The Wrexham trio were all in the T&T side which drew 0-0
with Costa Rica last month.
Sancho goes crazy
He sped off and then kept looking back as if he was being
chased by a robber.
That was how Scottish-based defender Brent Sancho reacted
after scoring the winner for Dundee in their 2-1 win over
Dunfermline Athletic to take them clear of the cellar spot
in the Premier League on Saturday.
At
first I was in shock, I knew I was in the right spot and I
went for it but when the ball went in I had to look back a
couple times to make sure it was really a goal, Sancho
said.
It
was obviously good for me because I havent been in the
team for the past few weeks for certain reasons and then to
come in and play a decent game and get the winner was the
best way to respond.
The
manager was happy at the end and so were the fans which is
what we aim to achieve.
Dundee is in ninth spot with 31 points.
Also grabbing the headlines in Dundee was striker Jason Scotland
who powered the winner to oust Hibernian 2-1 in the Scottish
Cup semis.
The win sent them into the final as well as the UEFA Cup Finals
next season as Celtic defeated Hearts to become the other
Scottish Cup finalists.
Dundee however, remain at the bottom of the League table with
22 points, two less than closest rivals Livingston.
Glen doubles, Smith signs
Cornell Glen pressed for first team selection when he notched
a double in FC Dallas 7-0 win over West Texas A &
M in a training match last week.
Glen netted in the 44th and 55th minute for the team comprised
of players who did not make the first team which scored a
win over Chicago Fire on the opening American MLS day earlier
this month.
Meantime, fellow young T&T striker Conrad Smith signed
for Canadian club Toronto Lynx for the upcoming American A-league
season.
Smith campaigned with Calgary Mustangs last season amd was
the teams topscorer with six goals before moving back
to local Pro League side Caledonia Fire.
"After
having a very good rookie season in the A-League, I'm looking
for Conrad to solidify himself as a top striker," says
new Lynx Head Coach, Hubert Busby.
"I
believe we now have one of the best striking tandems in the
league."
Rangers boss hopes for Andrews recovery
Glasgow Rangers manager Alex McLeish is hopeful that Marvin
Andrews will be sufficiently fit to line up for his starting
team against Celtic on April 24.
Andrews has been sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury
and has also refused to have surgery performed to cure the
damage as, in keeping his spiritual beliefs, he believes that
God will heal him.
On Tuesday Mc Leish said There is nothing further to
add about Marvin. He's not training but has been coming in
for treatment. Nothing has changed on the decision the
big man made and I don't really want any more headlines.
Until
he's out there training again and looking like the Marvin
I'm used to seeing then he won't play Mc Leish added
There
was an initial injury to his knee regardless of the repair
work that has been recommended. The brace will help the first
part of the injury. It will stabilise it and help to quicken
the recovery. But it won't repair his cruciate.
Mcleish still believes Andrews could make a contribution once
he responds to rehab.
It
is possible he could play because he has such strong thigh
muscles.
There
are precedents and players who have played with cruciate injuries
and got away with it - I think Shaun McSkimming played without
a cruciate in one of his legs.
So
it is possible but first and foremost he's got to join the
group. And then I would have to look at him in certain technical
movements to see if it's the same Marvin who has been excellent
for Rangers this season.
The injury forced Andrews to miss T&Ts two previous
World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala and Costa Rica.
The big defender has been constrained by his advisors to avoid
making a statement until further notice.
Shakes seals Bury survival
English-born striker Ricky Shakes helped secure Burys
berth in English League Two football when he netted a last
gasp equalizer in a 2-2 draw with Kidderminster and raise
them out of the relegation zone on the weekend.
Shakes netted from inside the six yard box following a corner
in the second minute of stoppage time to send the Bury fans
into a frenzy. On loan at Bury from Premiership side Bolton
Wanderers, Shakes said he should know soon whether he will
be offered a new contract.
"I
don't know what's happening at the end of the season. Bolton
have told me they'll let me know whether I'm going to get
a new contract but I would have no trouble coming to Bury
Shakes said.
They are a good bunch of lads, they've got a good manager
and I feel very comfortable here, said Shakes, adding
that he still hopes to play for the T&T Senior team this
year.
