Minister Patrick Manning has agreed to lend his distinguished
patronage to a June 11 calypso festival being staged in
the city of his birth, San Fernando, hometown roots he shares
with the shows host and featured artiste, Black Stalin.
This was disclosed this week by Festival promoter Randy
Glasgow via a press release.
Glasgow also said that Stalin, five-time national calypso
monarch and reigning Calypso King of Kings, will have not
one but two Caribbean prime ministers as special guests
at his upcoming festival, which is being staged atop the
southern citys most famous landmark, San Fernando
St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonzales
has indicated his interest in attending the concert, enforcing
the high praise he heaped upon the popular calypsonian last
month when Stalin and other top-drawer T&T acts appeared
at a major entertainment event in that territory.
At that event, Dr Gonsalves made a public offer of citizenship
and diplomatic passports to Black Stalin and event promoter
Randy Glasgow, whose outfit (Randy Glasgow Productions)
is putting on the San Fernando Hill Festival on June 11.
Speculation is that the Vincentian Prime Minister may seize
the opportunity to confer these awards although that activity
is not yet listed as part of the shows official programme.
The Black Stalin All-inclusive Kaiso Festival, as the show
is billed, will see the host present a number of top-flight
acts from the local arena, whose works in the calypso genre
have been perennial crowd pleasers. For those who latched
onto kaiso late, the show presents an excellent opportunity
to also experience Stalin as the shows co-host.
Come June 11, Stalin will not only give back some of that
respect to San Fernando but will bring along a phalanx of
top artistes to share in the festivities.
Limited tickets including VIP tickets for Black Stalins
Kaiso Festival, which will be an all-inclusive affair, go
on sale on May 9. For early reservations and information
