T&T’s Under-21 netballers suffered another defeat in the World Youth Netball Championship (WYNC) at Broward Convention Centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, yesterday.

The “Calypso Girls” had rebounded from defeat on Saturday to the lowly ranked Samoa 36-48, to beat Barbados by 11 goals (46-35) on Sunday.The team had a higher shooting accuracy of 80 per cent to Barbados’ 66.The quarter scores read 9-8, 22-14 and 28-32 all in favour of T&T.

Goal-shooter Candace Nelson (82% ) scored 31 goals from 38 tries and her goal-attacker Afeisha Noel connected 15 off 19 attempts.

Cassandra Cutting (20/33), Leanne Greenidge (13/17) and Nikita Piggott (2/3) were the shooters for Barbados.

T&T will play England today in its final match of pool ‘D’.

The current preliminary round continues for another three days, after which teams are re-ranked and a new Pool Round will take place.

Twenty teams are contesting the 10-day championships, with Australia the current champion.
