T&T cricketers in search for an outright win against Guyana to reach the final of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Cricket Challenge three-day league championship, kept their dreams alive yesterday with an impressive all-round display at the Sion Hill Playing Field in Kingstown.

On an intriguing second's day, T&T snatched first innings lead, thanks mainly to a fine bowling display by left-arm wrist spinner Dane Teelucksingh, who picked up six for 31, as the Guyanese chasing T&T’s first innings total of 133 were dismissed for 124. It was Teelucksingh's second successive five-wicket haul in the tournament, which followed his five for 27 in the second innings against the Leeward Islands at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

With a slim lead of nine runs, debutant T&T opening batsman Marlon Barclay hit a fine 45 in 186 minutes, which included two fours, and West Indies youth spinner Rishi Bachan struck a timely 43 to steady the T&T innings. At the close, T&T reached 170 for nine, an overall lead of 179 with one wicket intact. Fast bowler Jeewan Ramroop is not out on eight, and Teelucksingh unbeaten on six.

Off-spinner Jason Sripal is the leading bowler for the Guyana with figures of five for 49 from 24 overs.

In an extended day's play which was interrupted twice for rain, Guyana started on 114 for seven, still needing 20 for first innings lead and a place in the final.

Bachan struck the first blow when he bowled Delroy Jacobs for three, to leave the Guyanese on 119 for seven.

Not to be outdone, 'mystery' spinner Teelucksingh joined in the dance by removing the last two batsmen.

Teelucksingh had Richard Ramdeen caught by Ramroop in the deep for 43, and at 124 he deceived fast bowler Jeremy Gordon who was given out leg before wicket.

T&T started poorly in their second innings losing Adrian Bharath for three, bowled by Ryan Hercules.

An early lunch was taken because of rain with T&T on 15 for one, and on the resumption, T&T slipped to 17 for three with the dismissals of skipper Jason Mohammed (two) and William Perkins (0). Barclay was joined by Javed Mohammed and the pair steadied the innings with an important partnership of 40 for the fourth wicket. Despite the loss of a few wickets in the middle, Barclay, first innings batting hero Kieron Pollard (26) and Bachan kept the T&T hopes alive with resolute batting.
