T&T’s dreams of reaching the 2006 World Cup edged closer last night, after the Soca Warriors played to a 2-1 victory against the visiting Mexicans at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

A double from England-based striker Stern John did the trick for the Soca Warriors, who will now go into a two-match playoff with Bahrain (November 12 and 16) for one of the few remaining spots in Germany.

John, having muffed a 31st minute penalty, scored in the 42nd and 61st minutes to the delight of a jam packed stadium.

T&T finished the campaign on 13 points, two more than Guatemala, who were also in with a chance, after beating Costa Rica 3-1 last night, had T&T slipped up.

The Mexicans (22 pts), USA (22 pts) and Costa Rica (16 pts) filled the top three spots.
