Joshua Changar and Joseph Ryan were crowned age-group champions as local swim club Tidal Wave Aquatics gave an outstanding performance at the 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr, Swim Classic which was held from January 13-15 at the Nassau County Aquatic Centre, East Meadow Long Island.

Changar dominated the 9-10 age-group and was the overall age group champion after he won gold five gold medals and three silvers.

His gold medal performances came in the in the 200-yard freestyle, 100- yard and 200-yard individual medley, 50 -yard and 100-yard breaststroke while silver medals came via the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly.

In the Open Male category, Ryan was the overall champion, placing first in the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly while he grabbed silver in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle and bronze in the 50-yard freestyle.

Orlando Thom also won gold in his five events - the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes, 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle.

Thom and Ryan combined with Anthony and David Edwards to win gold from 11 other teams in the 400-yard freestyle and medley relays. Edwards got another medal, this time a bronze from the 100-yard backstroke.

Other impressive swims came from Jonathan Fabio, Christopher Buffong and Donna-Marie Wickham.

Fresh from breaking the national Short Course Eight & Under-50 metres freestyle record in December, Fabio moved up into the 9-10 age group.

He was first in the 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard butterfly; second in the 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard and 200-yard individual medley; third in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle.

Fabio and Changar also combined with Gabriel Garrett and Micah Billouin for a second place finish in the 10 & Under 200-yard freestyle relay.

In the 13-14 male category, Buffong was first in the 200-yard individual medley while Wickham topped the field in the 100-yard backstroke.

Wickham was also second in the 200-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle in the Open Female category and formed part of a 400-yard medley relay team that also comprised Jhenille London, Raenelle Carrillo and Quitara La Guerre to place third in the women 400 yard medley relay.
