Social Development Minister Anthony Roberts says he is yet
to receive the report on allegations of sexual abuse at
the Cry Foundation.
I
was at my desk on Sunday last and I have not seen a report
as yet, he told reporters yesterday.
I
do not know if it was submitted. Usually the route is through
the permanent secretary, but I have not seen the report
as yet. I guess it is on its way.
Roberts was speaking in an interview during the tea break
at his ministrys staff retreat at the Centre of Excellence
in Macoya.
The event, entitled Lets Celebrate: One Year, One
Ministry, One Family, saw the merging of the Social Development
Ministry and the Social Services Delivery arm of the Office
of the Prime Minister.
Almost two weeks ago, it was revealed that at least four
out of ten children from the Claxton Bay institution had
been sexually abused.
Last week, Roberts said that prior to the report that was
made to the police, he had received correspondence from
the National Family Services Division that the institution
needed to get some additional funding and requested a report
from them.
News of alleged abuse at the Cry Foundation came days after
the grizzly sodomy and murder of four-year-old Amy Emily
Annamunthodo.
Marlon King, the young girls stepfather, has been
charged with her murder.
The minister said yesterday that homes for abused and abandoned
children were continually investigated through the division.
That
is ongoing, he said, adding that legislation to promote
the Childrens Authority would also go to Parliament
in the near future.
Outlining changes in the ministrys structure, Roberts
stressed: We are restructuring some of the divisions of
the ministry and there will be new divisions as well.
