Prisons officer Terrel Logan, 31, who was allegedly caught outside the Port-of-Spain State Prison on Thursday trafficking in marijuana was yesterday granted $125,000 bail.

Senior Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim, presiding in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Court placed Logan on bail after an application by his lawyer Keith Scotland who said his client had no past or pending matters.

He added that Logan, who was allegedly arrested with 684.7 grammes of marijuana, a quantity of cigarettes, cellphones and wrapping paper outside the Port-of-Spain State Prison on Thursday morning, would not be a flight risk, as his passport had expired.

Initially the prosecutor had objected to Scotland’s application for bail on the grounds that Logan was yet to be traced.

Scotland, however, continued his plea, adding that Logan, who has six years service with the Prisons Service, was a family man and had a wife and three small children dependent on him.

The drug has an estimated street value of $7,000.

Police said Logan is the fifth prisons officer to have been charged with drug trafficking and possession of illegal drugs in the past few months.
