The National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) has expressed condolences to the family of the late former president Noor Hassanali.

“Mr Hassanali represented the embodiment of statesmanship, humility and integrity. His loss is, indeed, the nation’s loss.

“The legacy which he has left us is that he had striven to remain in an impure world,” NJAC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, head of the non-governmental group, Citizens for a Better Trinidad and Tobago, Harrack Balramsingh, said Hassanali was one of the greatest exemplars to serve in public life.

Balramsingh said Hassanali’s generosity towards the disadvantaged in society must be highly praised.

He said: “We as a nation owe a great deal of gratitude to the late president, who demonstrated to us that through humility and tolerance, we can all live in peace and harmony with one another, regardless of our racial, religious or cultural background.”
