Marionettes Chorale member Nigel Pierre receives the Award for Music on behalf of the Chorale from T&T IB Committee member, June Ali.

The Marionettes Chorale was honoured last month by the T&T IBC Inc (Independence Ball Committee) in Miami, Florida, for their “Outstanding Contribution to the Arts and Culture of the Republic of T&T,” producing music that is “second to none” by critical acclaim.

The fourth annual ceremony was held on August 19, at the Mahi Shrine in Miami, Florida, under the patronage of the T&T Consulate of Miami. Other honourees included Dawn K Batson, PhD, and Clement “Clemmie” James, with cultural performances by the Malick Folk Performing Company. Senate president Dr Linda Baboolal was the keynote speaker for the event.

The Marionettes Chorale, conducted by Gretta Taylor, are recipients of a number of local and international awards. In 1987, they received the T&T Humming Bird Medal (Gold) for services to music. They retired unbeaten from the local Music Festival stage in 1980, and went on to win awards at the prestigious Cork International Choral and Dance Festival and the Middlesborough International Choral Festival in the United Kingdom.
