Hot on the heels of C2K7, the Chaguanas Carnival Committee is poised to pay out $150,000 in prize money to winners. Orlando Nagessar, the deputy mayor and head of the Carnival committee, said the Carnival was a success and the committee expects to distribute prizes within the next two weeks. He announced this while naming the winners of the 2007 Carnival prizes.

Nagessar said a hefty sum towards the increase of prize money for Tuesday mas had already been handed over to the committee by football magnate Jack Warner. Nagessar said next year’s event would be bigger and brighter as the Carnival committee would seek to turn Ramsaran Street into a Carnival village, complete with elaborate lighting and decor.

Nagessar said for C2K7 Ramsaran Street was chosen as the venue for the parade of the bands while the Main Road was given to the DJs and people looking to fete. Nagessar said this experiment worked “brilliantly.” The committee continues to receive commendations for the new arrangement for C2K7, the free movement of bands on Ramsaran Street was laudable.
