A RETIRED Special Reserve officer has succumbed to stab wounds he received from robbers who relieved him of his car.

Phillip Nelson, 49, died on Monday, 12 days after he had been stabbed by robbers. He is the nation’s 73rd murder victim for the year.

Police investigators said Nelson was robbed of his car and stabbed on March 28 while struggling with thieves at the Central Market, Abattoir Road, Port-of-Spain.

The murder toll for the corresponding period last year was 115.

In an unrelated matter, the body found with chop wounds at Caura Village on Monday has been identified as that of orphan Samuel Jordan.

Residents stumbled on the body and observed chop wounds to the back of the head.

Jordan, 31, was a former resident of the St Mary’s orphanage.

Homicide officers of the Arouca Division believe the incident may have been drug related and have detained a 34-year-old suspect from Caura Royal Road for questioning.

Investigators were expected to seek instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday, on any charges against the suspect.

And in another matter, police investigators have identified the body found at the St Joseph River on Easter Friday as that of 49-year-old Rasheed Hosein.
