Las Vegas-based performers Garry and Kelsey Carson and New
York-based ventriloquist Kenny Warren and his puppet Leroy
Cool are promising a magic show with a twist.
Yesterday, the trio came to town for The Ultimate Magic
Show, sponsored by the Trinidad Broadcasting Co (TBC) Network,
at Jean Pierre Complex in Port-of-Spain, tomorrow.
Previously, they performed for audiences in Australia, India,
Europe, and neighbouring Caribbean islands, including Aruba,
Bahamas, St Maarten and St Thomas.
But they could not contain their excitement at playing to
a Trini audience on their maiden visit here.
Although the thespians did not want to totally let the cat
out of the bag, they offered a sneak peek into their repertoire
which promises a treat for the entire family.
Among the acts the Carsons will be presenting are levitating,
metamorphosis, transposition and their specialtyBits
n Pieces.
Kelsey said its called magic with a twist since Garry
has added his own touch to items such as Bits n
Pieces.
While recreating the mood of a medieval castle in a segment
of Bits n Pieces, Garry places Kelsey in a box
and sticks her with three swords, two arrows and a fire
torch.
He
does not use the regular two swords...He likes to push the
tricks a bit, Kelsey said.
He
spent about a year-and-a-half trying to figure out how to
put the fire torch in without burning me.
Peoples
jaws drop...How did he do that?
The audience will also view the typical classical tricka
magician sawing his wife in two.
Normally, the woman is lying down, but in this case Kelsey
will be standing.
Although the Carsons have been married for 14 years, they
have no children.
Kelsey said her children comprise a black leopard,
doves, ducks, a rabbit and parakeet.
They
all work, she added.
Similar to the Carsons, ventriloquist Kenny Warren and his
partner puppet Leroy Cool are delighted to be performing
here for the first time.
Warren was content to let Leroy Cool steal the showeven
in the Guardians lobby.
He
makes a fool out of me...He does most of the talking,
Warren said.
Sometimes
he gets an attitude and says he'll go out and do his own
act, said Warren, while poking fun at Leroy Cools
Pinochio-styled nose.
Ill
show you what I can do with my nose, said Leroy Cool.
He
likes kids...Hes crazy about women, Warren said.
He
even has surprises up his sleeve for both the women and
the children.
At
a few shows I did in the past, Ive had to request
extra security.
The
children go nuts...The children think hes real,
added Warren, who designed the show-stealer himself.
Warren has appeared on the Late Night Show, and Comedy Tonight
and national television.
