ANOTHER child has been struck by a stray bullet during gang violence, this time in Laventille.

Kadeisha Perceival, of Waterman Road in Belmont, a stone’s throw from Lower St Barb’s Road in Laventille, suffered gunshot wounds to her hands and both legs on Wednesday night, when men involved in gang warfare in the area opened fire at around eight o’clock.

Perceival was treated at Port-of-Spain General Hospital and discharged.

Police are searching for the gunmen.

This follows Monday night’s incident at Coconut Drive in Morvant, where gunmen, also involved in gang warfare, opened fire on the wrong house and shot five-year-old Fazeer Mohammed in the left eye.

Mohammed remains in stable condition at the Paediatric Ward at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

Relatives said Mohammed was expected to undergo eye surgery today, since there was no swelling in the eye, which had prevented surgery the last three days.

Police reported that at around 8 pm, Perceival and other relatives were walking along St Barb’s Road near St John Street, when they heard several loud explosions.

Perceival then felt a burning sensation about her body, police said.

Investigators said shotgun pellets were used by the gunmen.

A relative, at the Belmont home yesterday, said they had been on their way to buy bread when the gunmen began firing.

“We were walking when two men started shooting,” the relative said.

“There were people all around...We were closer to them (gunmen) and Kadeisha got shot.”

Belmont Police are continuing investigations.
