Clarence Tobias...at the finish line.

The Trotters Tucker Valley Tester, a mini Multi-Sport Race held in Chaguaramas last weekend as a warm-up to the 2007 Tropical Power Coast 2 Coast, was a huge success, with marathoner Clarence Tobias taking top honours.

Similar to Coast 2 Coast, athletes were required to trail run, cycle and paddle, but the distances were much shorter than they will be when the third annual Coast 2 Coast event is held on October 6 and 7.

Forty would-be Coast 2 Coast competitors participated in the warm-up event, which took athletes through different scenic areas of Tucker Valley. Tobias marked his lead early on the run, and second-place finisher Ryan Mendes could not catch him on the kayak leg of the course. Tobias finished in a total time of 2:15:15.7, with Mendes crossing the finish line a mere two minutes later. Third place went to triathlete Jason Gooding, in a time of 2:21:27.9.

The first woman to place was Diane Henderson, coming in at the 15th position overall, in a time of 2:57:22.3. Second place female went to Joanne Steel, while Natasha Kelshall took the third place female title.

Additional sponsors of the event included HSS Rental Stores, Stag, Dasani, Sprite, and Battery Energy Drink.
