187-pound tarpon was caught on Friday by Jean Paul Agostini
also called JP in the first session of the First
Annual Tarpon Thunder Tournament put on by the T&T Game
Fishing Association (TTGFA) with main sponsorship from the
Well Services Group of Companies.
Agostini just missed the jackpot of US$10,000 sponsored
by Real Marketing Ltd for the heaviest tarpon over 200 lbs.
The catch set the new local tarpon record certified by TTGFA
officials in accordance with International Game Fishing
Many anglers fought large tarpon during the three day tournament,
but only Agostini was lucky enough to set the local record
at 187 lbs. The world record for tarpon is 287 lbs.
The final results were announced at the prize giving ceremony
on August 19 at the Lure Restaurant, Sweet Water Marina.
Mamzelle took first Place with 11 tarpon released. Bobby
Breen placed second with 11 and in third with 10 was Radical.
A total of 21 boats and 90 anglers caught and released 77
tarpon with two tarpon brought to the scale in the popular
Tarpon Thunder Tournament.
Two teams came from Tobago and another two teams from the
United States. All teams confirmed their interest in coming
to the tournament next year.
