Chairman of the board
Trinidad Publishing Co Ltd
The first edition of the Trinidad Guardian Newspaper was
published in 1917. Between then and now the Trinidad Guardian
and the Sunday Guardian newspapers have been a reliable
source of news (both local and international) information
and entertainment for our readers.
In 1955, the Guardian published its first radio-transmitted
photograph, and by the 1960s had begun introducing colour.
By 1985, The Guardian had moved from a predominantly black
and white publication to one full of lively colour images.
Since then we have been able to increase the number of colour
pages to meet the demand of our advertisers and our readers
alike.
For the past several years the newspaper market in T&T
has become increasingly competitive with two other mass
circulation national newspapers, both tabloids, competing
for the advertising dollar and striving to be relevant to
the newspaper reading public.
The Guardian newspapers held out with their broadsheet size
and format until November 11, 2002, when they transitioned
to the distinctive G-size which the modern newspaper market
demanded of us so as to satisfy the need to be more with-the-times
and user-friendly.
Throughout it all we have lived up to our core journalistic
values inter alia of integrity and reliability and have
satisfied the needs of our niche readership market thereby
ensuring a good return to our shareholders.
With the increased pace of life and consequent change in
lifestyle facilitated by readily available technology the
reach of the newspaper has extended to a large overseas
computer literate market who access the media electronically.
In keeping with the times and with a view to ensuring the
best newspaper product quality, the Guardian newspaper will
be printed on a new state-of-the-art press and distributed
from a central Trinidad location commencing January, 2008.
It gives me great pleasure to extend congratulations to
the management and staff of our newspaper, to thank our
advertisers and our readers, and to wish the newspaper continuing
success.
