Former Flying Squad member Terrence Nelson had much to look forward to this Christmas. He and his wife Bianca had only recently purchased a new home.

He was excited about the holidays because their two-year-old daughter was now beginning to understand the meaning of Christmas.

He was planning to surprise her with a computer.

Nelson was doing some final touches to their home at Opal Crescent, Edinburgh 500, on Saturday when he died.

His wife, Bianca, said her husband, who suffered from high blood pressure, apparently had a heart attack or succumbed to heat stroke.

A distraught Bianca said when she arrived at the house, he was lying backwards on the scaffolding with his head lodged between the supporting braces.

She can’t believe her husband has died.

Christmas would not be the same without him, she said.

He always looked forward to the special holiday.

And was working hard at making their home comfortable.

Nelson’s daughter, who is in her 20s and did not wish to be identified, said her father’s death was difficult to come to terms with.

Nelson started his career in the T&T Police Service in 1973 and was a member of police commissioner Randy Borroughs’ controversial crime-fighting Flying Squad.

Nelson was on pre-retirement leave, but after writing promotional exams was elevated to the rank of assistant superintendent and decided to return to active duty.

An autopsy is expected to be performed today.

The funeral is scheduled for Friday at a venue to be announced.
