Safety
week launched
The
OSH Authority, National safety Week and Safety Awards 2008
was launched to the media at the Hilton Trinidad on February
13.
Officiating at the event were Rennie Dumas, Minister of
Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development; Wayne
Bertrand, chairman, and Paul Huijzendveld, executive director,
Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Authority respectively,
and Vincent Pereira, president, BHP Billiton, gold sponsor
of the safety awards.
Other sponsors include, PCS Nitrogen, silver sponsors; Neal
& Massy Energy and Carillion (Caribbean) Ltd bronze
sponsors. Awards were presented by Minister Dumas to sponsors.
National Safety will be celebrated between March 3 and April
17 . The awards ceremony will be held on April 30.
Among guests who sat with members of the media during the
launch were Dr Anna Theresa Ramero director, ILO Sub-regional
Office for the Caribbean; Martin De Gannes, chairman Employers
Consultative Association (ECA); Carl Francis, permanent
secretary, Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise
Development; and Devnath Roopnarine, acting chief inspector,
OSH Authority.
