FORMER T&T and West Indies allrounder Bernard Julien, left, embraces young T&T and West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo in the VIP Lounge of Piarco International Airport yesterday. Bravo was a key member of the T&T team which defeated Jamaica by nine wickets in the final of the Stanford 20/20 tournament on Sunday.

Fresh from their victory in the Stanford Twenty/20 tournament, the jubilant T&T cricketers returned home yesterday, after slamming Jamaica by nine wickets in the final on Sunday night.

Led by skipper Daren Ganga, the players touched down at Piarco International Airport just around 1.35 pm.

One by one they emerged to a fanfare fit for dignitaries of the highest stature, as they were bombarded by tassa, pan, moko jumbies and adoring fans who were eager to congratulate them on a job well done.

The team, which won $US one million in the process, was greeted by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Gary Hunt as well as executive members of the T&T Cricket Board of Control, led by which treasurer Richard J Williams and vice president Azim Bassarath.

They all expressed pleasure over the team’s victory, and wished them best of luck in the upcoming Carib Beer tournament, which begins on Friday at Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

The team will take on Jamaica in a “re-match” in the four-day version of the game.
