A prisons officer was robbed at gunpoint when four armed men stormed his home at Basta Hall in Couva, on Sunday, around 8.50 pm, looking for a senior police officer.

According to reports, the men, their faces masked with

bandanas, entered the home of Angard Sonnilal, 46, who works at the Golden Grove Prison and is on vacation.

The men asked Sonnilal for acting Seargant Samlalsingh.

Samlalsingh, however, lives in a house opposite Sonnilal.

When they discovered they went to the wrong house, the men took a different course of action: they decided to rob the family.

The gunmen tore up a towel and began tying up Sonnilal, his wife Rosanna, 40, and the couple’s two children Carissa, 13, and Reeid, 21.

The men made off with $7,000, US$1,000, a computer, $21,000 worth of jewelry and other household items.

The bandits ordered Rosanna to switch off the alarm on the family’s Nissan B14 Sunny car before they stole it.

Officers of the Couva station are investigating.
