FATHER’s Day will never be the same for Khemraj Dolsingh. He attended the funeral of his only child yesterday.

Unable to walk, Dolsingh left the San Fernando General Hospital in a wheelchair yesterday, to bid good-bye to his five-year-old son, Kyle, who was crushed to death when a plastic water tank fell on him.

The incident occurred last Sunday, at the family’s Quinam Road, Siparia home.

Blaming himself for the mishap which occurred while he was attaching fittings to the 450 gallon water tank, Dolsingh wailed in anguish when he saw his son’s body.

“No, No,” Dolsingh cried as he caressed his son’s face, placing a gold chain around his neck. The child’s body lay in a white-and gold-casket adorned with roses, a post card and his favourite toy truck.

Consoling her husband, wife Neisha, 22, kissed and hugged Dolsingh, wiping away his tears, but the distraught man was inconsolable.

In tribute, pupils of Penal Presbyterian pre-school sang church choruses and the “I love you” song from the children’s TV show Barney, for their classmate.

Kyle was to attend the San Francique Hindu School in September.

Pundit Anil Singh, who officiated at service, urged the gathering to seek solace through prayer.

“Only prayer can help. On a day when children worship their fathers, this child is not here to do that. He did nothing in life to go this way,” Singh said.

Following the service, Kyle was cremated at the Shore of Peace.
