Avillon Pascall shows her winner “Pooch” which won the Open Class.

Sporting a gleaming coat, a back-and-white beagle owned by Don Gibbons walked away as top dog in the sixth annual Hound Walk & All-Breed Dog Show put on by the Nariva/Mayaro Hunters Association at the bpTT Mayaro Resource Centre on September 20.

A crowd favourite, Gibbons’ beagle which answers to the name of Frankie, won the nod of judge Tim Lumkin in the beagle category and beat out three other breed winners for the coveted award of Best Dog on Show.

Other winners were: Best Puppy — Bolo, with handler Dhanraj Ragbir; Best Fox Hound—Caskarey—with handler Garvin O’Connon; Best Mixed Breed – Pappy, with handler Alvin Kallicharan. Avillon Pascall won the special Open Class with her dog “Pooch.”

Hundreds turned out for the popular event which was officially opened by MP for Mayaro, Winston “Gypsy” Peters, who appealed to all dog lovers to care for their animals, as well as the environment. “We depend on these wonderful animals as much as they depend on us,” he added.

Former national cycling star Roger Gibbons was among scores of dog owners who participated in the show which also featured several booths selling a range of items and clothing for the hunting season. Another feature was free check-ups done by veterinarian Ravi Ramcharitar. Among the main sponsors were Barkin Dogs Ltd, Hill Science Diet and Eukanoba.
