We’ve often heard as women that men see us much differently
than we see ourselves. But just how much does a woman’s
opinion of herself differs from a man’s opinion of her?
That’s what WomanWise wanted to find out.
For our experiment, we got three women to tell us what they
see when they look in the mirror and three of their male colleagues
to say what they see when they look at them.
Here’s what we found out.
Lorraine P
26 years old, thick, dark skin
What she sees when she looks in the mirror?
“Only
fat. I think that I am overweight and it bothers me because
before I had children I was a skinny girl. It makes me feel
down sometimes, but I am working on it.
What are the positive things that she sees?
I guess my face.
Marisa S
Late 30s, medium built, fair-skinned, petite.
What she sees when she looks in the mirror?
“It
depends on the day. I will see different things, according
to my mood.
“Some
days I see a beautiful woman. Other days I don’t see
that.”
What are the positive things that she sees?
When I am in a good mood? My face
Tracy D
26, slim, brown-skinned, dreadlocks, petite.
What she sees when she looks in the mirror?
“Just
a normal-looking girl. I am kind of comfortable with my body,
but I wish I had bigger breasts. Mine are so small.
What are the positive things that she sees?
“I
love my locks a lot. And I am comfortable with the size of
my big butt.”
What the men see
in these women
Lorraine P
Roger Y: That is one sweet darkie. I love her size —
thick like mud. And she has nice eyes.
David K: That is the kind of woman a man would find hard to
leave in the house while he goes out to work. The way she
thick and sexy and that smooth dark skin, if she was my woman,
we would be making love right through the day.
Ricardo H: She has a good size and pretty eyes. I know she
thinks of herself as fat because I often hear her talking
about it, but she looks great to me.

Roger Y: She is a sexy little chick who is very classy. I
like the way she carries herself like a real classy lady.
David K: She’s all right looking and she has a really
nice body. Nice shape.
Ricardo H: Not my kind of woman, but she looks good all the
time. Well put together and everything.
Tracy D
Roger Y: She has a little girl body and for me personally
that doesn’t work. But she is a good looking girl.
David K: She is really cool and attractive. For a small woman
she has a really nice big butt. Her dreadlocks complete her
look. It takes her.
Ricardo H: I never really looked at her too much. She’s
OK I guess.
