Superfood of the Week- Water
This week we'll be covering the world's most underrated superfoods - water! Water is one of the most important ingredients to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, but can have major effects on your health if it isn't clean. Pure drinking water makes it much easier for the cleansing organs like the liver and kidneys to use. Clean drinking water is also more pleasant to drink, but for many world wide- this is a privilege that they don't have. According to the foundation Water Aid, a charity dedicated to providing water to brining clean water and toilets to those that need it, one in nine people do not have access to clean water.
Water is needed all over the world and is one of nature's most abundant resources. It's called a superfood because it's one substance that our bodies cannot live without. Our bodies are made up of about 70 percent water. It is essential to our survival, but it's the cleanliness of the water that really keeps us in optimum health.
How much water do you need?
It's common knowledge that we need a daily intake of water to survive, but do we know how much we really need? The standard and most common recommendation is to drink eight to 10 glasses, of at least eight ounces each per day. But this theory can vary based on many different factors such as, how active you are, the type of climate you live in, external and internal factors. As a matter of fact, you may need to drink much more than the recommended daily amount.
Boosts your brain
Since your brain is made up of about 75 percent water, having a good water intake can help you to concentrate better and be more alert. As an added bonus your energy levels are also boosted!
Promotes Weight Loss
Water helps to flush out the unwanted toxins in your body, including the by-products of fat. Water also works as an appetite suppressant, raises your metabolism and is calorie free.
Water consumption is essential for proper digestion. It helps with keeping your bowel movements regular and prevents constipation.
Boosts Your Immune System
If your body is hydrated- you're less likely to get sick. Drinking a lot of water can help with fighting against the flu, cancer and even heart attacks! And water is FREE!
